ODsay - Free Vintage Vsti

ODsay is an ARP Odissey emulation.

The ARP Odissey is a two-oscillator analog synth, and was the one of the first synthesizers with duophonic capabilities (the ability to play two notes at the same time).

Switchable between sawtooth, square, and pulse waveforms with oscillator sync, a ring modulator, and pink or white noise.Pulse-width can be modulated manually or with the LFO or the ADSR envelope generator. There is a (static) high-pass filter, as well as a voltage controlled low-pass self-oscillating filter.

The filter can be controlled by either of the two envelope generators, an ADSR (attack, decay, sustain, release) and a simple AR (attack, release) and modulated by the LFO, sample-and-hold, the keyboard, or a separate CV (pedal) input on the back panel.

The Sample/Hold input mixer can be used to route the output of the VCOs to the FM input of VCO 2 and the VCF, enabling audio.

Tethys 2 - Free Vintage Vst Plugin

Tethys 2 is based around the architecture of the PAiA Proteus 1 (not the EMU's expander !).

The effects from right to left are Phaser, Chorus and Echo these are fairly standard but follow the Tethys ethos of keep it simple and therefore have the minimum number of controls needed. Then comes the X Mod the effect of which changes depending on Oscillator 2's waveform and the knobs setting (should maybe have been called Mod ?) and can sound depending on the settings anything from FM, AM, RM to badly soldered wires randomly distorting the sound. A great companion to the next effect the Drive, it started out as a recreation of an old Washburn SX3 pedal but as I tried to reduce the pedals three knobs to one it took on a character of its own. Its tone is also dependent on the amount of signal being fed to it by the volume knob, so to get the sound you want you may have to turn the volume down and boost it at your mixer.

To take advantage of the range of sounds and interplay these last three knobs had I thought they would be ideal for the Variable Attenuation Matrix or VAM, just click on the symbol for Velocity, After touch or Modulation wheel and use the knob to set the maximum amount and anything less than say full velocity etc will attenuate the control. This worked so well I applied it to several other controls to give a very organic playing experience.

Transcendental 2000 - Free Vintage Vst Plugin

Transcendental 2000 is based on the Powertran Transcendent 2000, a diy kit synthesizer from 1978.

The front panel is a replica of the original except for the program manager and the page buttons on the right. Being to scale makes some of the labels a little hard to read (unless you have a screen large enough to scale it up to its original 26" width) but the knobs are fairly standard, the switches which operate some of the most important modes of the keyboard are less so. Below are descriptions for these switches.

Moon Sono Sx - Free Vintage Vst Plugin

Moon Sono Sx is a Moog Sonix Six emulation.

It features two VCOs with changeable waveform (sawtooth, triangle, square, pulse), one low-pass VCF, a VCA, two multimode LFOs for modulation. The Sono is a two-oscillator duophonic synth.

It can be set for duophonic, (two notes at a time... one oscillator takes high-note priority and one oscillator takes low note priority), monophonic (both oscs), or monophonic with a drone (one osc changes pitch, one does not).

The pitch of each oscillator can be controlled by dual LFO, one by contour, and the other by the other oscillator. The Sono Sx also features pink or white noise. The Dual LFO design is unique. A mix control allows mixing of each LFO source, while voltage control of each LFO allows additional rate control not often seen in portable synthesizers.

Each LFO can produce saw, reverse saw, triangle, and square wave outputs. The contour generators are a simple design as compared to other synthesizer models. Decay is provided by a switch, offering long or short decay times.

RA Mowg - Free Vintage Vsti

The Roberson Audio interpretation of the MiniMoog Model D synthesizer.

This synth is meant to be a model of the Minimoog Model D synthesizer, and a lot of time was invested to get it the way it sounds, including oscillator and filter character as well as modulation struction and response.

The synth was built with 48khz sample rate in mind, so it may not sound the same in other sample rates (generally though, higher will not have negative effects)

Even though a mod wheel is not present in the graphical portion of the synth, using the mod wheel on your keyboard still has the same effect as the real synth

There is a switch on the synth for an external input. In a real Minimoog, this could receive any audio input, but for this plug-in it has been hardwired as a feedback loop from the audio output of the synth. Be careful pushing the volume of it too high!

The synth is completely monophonic, with priority given to last note played. Realism has been sacrificed for playability, but I believe it is a good trade-off in this instance.

Oddy-Free - Free Vintage Vst Instrument

Oddy-Free is an emulation of an "Arp Odyssey Mk.II."

Much attention to detail was given in the layout of the signal path to have it behave as accurately as possible.

It does have just a touch more umph than most originals would - this particular emulation was based on the "illegal" filter versions based on Moog's -24dB Low-Pass filter, so it sounds quite a bit smoother and richer but at the same it can produce the harsh metallic tones known from the Odyssey.

Supersaw OSC - Vintage Vst Plugin

Supersaw OSC is based on the Roland JP8000/8080 Supersaw oscillator.

It emulates just the oscillator itself with a basic ADSR envelope and output volume control. The oscillator is not 100% like original but very close based on the comparision to the real one and the specs, but is pretty close to the original in the mix and detune behaviour.
